Gudalur Taluk Muslim Orphanage (YathimKhana) Committee was initially formed in the year 1973, but by acquiring lands in 1976 pal by patron moderate prices and reasonable gifts over an extent of 43 acres. It was formed into action in a place called C.H.Nagar (Chembala), Gudalur within the limits of Gudalur Municipality of Gudalur Taluk in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. The Society framed its own by-law with rules and regulations and it was registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 under Registration No.40/76. The Society submits its report on changing of members of the Association due to death or resignation or otherwise from time to time and also audited statements of Accounts for each financial year to the District Registrar of Chits and Societies, NiJgiris District, Udhagamandalam who has his jurisdiction over the Society.

This Society has also been registered under the Tamil Nadu Wakf Act 1954 and has assigned Registration No. 50/NGS. Further we have got registration under Section 12A (a) of the Income Tax Act, 19661 and has been assigned Registration No. 1419(135)98-99/CBE. Income Tax Returns with audited Statement of Accounts and other Statements are filed annually before the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Ooty. Moreover, this institution has been registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976 (Registration No 07S970O89, Dated 28/12/1999). Audited Statement of Accounts and other statements in the prescribed form are sent to the Home Ministry, New Delhi every year. The institution also registered under Juvenile Justice (Law and Protection of Children) Act 2000 No: 14970/CW2/2010.

There are now 114 members in the Society, which forms the General Body. Among them 27 members from the Executive Committee or Working Committee. Monthly meeting of Working Committee is held on the second Wednesday every month. As routine, the Income and Expenditure accounts of the previous month and other all important subject are discussed in such meetings. The meeting of the General Body of the Association is being held at least once in a year.

In the beginning the Society had no capital funds, but being an Orphanage donations are collected from the public. Many philanthropists came forward to help the society in building hostels for the Orphans. In the beginning there were only 40 Orphans in the institution. It gradually developed and few more buildings came up and nowadays this has become a home for the Orphans both Girls and Boys. The Institution also become well-known center of learning. At present the total strength of the inmates is 72 (37 Boys and 35 Girls).Special care and attention is being given for the improvements of the living standards and educational facilities of the inmates.
